Case Study: CGI Visualization for Belgrade Duty Free at Nikola Tesla Airport

Project Overview

In 2022, Arteconi CGI collaborated with London-based design studio Inspired &Co. to support Avolta (formerly Dufry) in securing a seven-year duty-free concession at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. The centerpiece of this initiative was a 3,500 square meter walk-through retail space, designed to offer travelers a distinctive and immersive shopping experience. Avolta World

Objectives

  • Visual Communication: Produce high-quality CGI renderings, 360° views, and cinemagraphs to effectively convey the design concept to stakeholders.

  • Tender Support: Enhance the tender submission by providing compelling visual materials that showcase the proposed retail environment.

  • Design Realization: Assist in translating Inspired &Co.'s innovative design into a virtual representation that aligns with Avolta's vision for the space. LinkedIn

Challenges

  • Tight Deadlines: The project required quick turnarounds to meet tender submission timelines.

  • Large Retail Space: The expansive 3,500 sqm area demanded detailed and accurate visualizations.

  • Evolving Designs: Design adjustments continued up to the delivery stage, necessitating flexibility and adaptability in the visualization process. LinkedIn

Solutions

To address these challenges, Arteconi CGI leveraged its scalable team and extensive library of 3D models spanning various retail categories. This approach enabled efficient production of visual materials, including: LinkedIn

  • Photorealistic Renderings: High-fidelity images capturing the essence of the proposed retail space.

  • 360° Views: Interactive panoramas allowing stakeholders to virtually explore the store layout.

  • Cinemagraphs: Animated visuals highlighting key design elements and customer experiences.

These deliverables effectively communicated the design intent, facilitating stakeholder engagement and decision-making.

Outcome

The collaborative effort culminated in Avolta securing the duty-free concession at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. The new retail space features multiple hospitality offerings, including a Welcome Cafe, Rakia Bar, and the Mind Body Soul Cafe, as well as an Apple concession and a pre-owned accessory section. The interior design, characterized by dramatic color schemes and innovative lighting, has been lauded as a benchmark in duty-free retail environments. Getty Images LinkedIn
